History of SITC Principal’s House
SITC Principal’s House used to be the residence of O.T. Dussek, the first British SITC Principal. During the Second World War, the SITC Building including the SITC principal’s house was used as a British army headquarters and then after the British army retreated, it was used as a Japanese army headquarters. After the end of the Second World War, this house was believed to be abandoned and uninhabited until 2002. This house was renovated and painted for the first time in 2002 to be used as the temporary residence of UPSI’s 3rd Vice Chancellor, Tan Sri Dr. Muhammad Rais bin Abdul Karim. UPSI’s 4th Vice Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Aminah binti Ayob used to live in this house from 2008 to 2011. Now this house has been used as a university guest house. This house is also used as a venue for various events such as SITC/MPSI alumni meetings, social gatherings, workshops, tahlil, family days and dinner parties. The SITC Principal’s House which is now the Guest House is included in the “Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) Historical Heritage Route”.
Rumah Pengetua SITC pernah menjadi kediaman O.T. Dussek, Pengetua SITC British yang pertama. Semasa Perang Dunia Kedua, Bangunan SITC termasuk rumah pengetua SITC telah digunakan sebagai markas tentera British dan kemudian selepas tentera British berundur, ia digunakan sebagai markas tentera Jepun. Selepas tamat Perang Dunia Kedua, rumah ini dipercayai terbiar dan tidak berpenghuni sehingga tahun 2002. Rumah ini telah diubah suai dan dicat buat kali pertama pada tahun 2002 untuk dijadikan kediaman sementara Naib Canselor 3 UPSI, Tan Sri Dr. Muhammad Rais bin Abdul Karim. Naib Canselor 4 UPSI, Profesor Emeritus Dato’ Dr Aminah binti Ayob pernah tinggal di rumah ini dari tahun 2008 hingga 2011. Kini rumah ini telah digunakan sebagai rumah tetamu universiti. Rumah ini juga dijadikan tempat untuk pelbagai acara seperti perjumpaan alumni SITC/MPSI, majlis sosial, bengkel, tahlil, hari keluarga dan jamuan makan malam. Rumah Pengetua SITC yang kini menjadi Rumah Tetamu termasuk dalam “Laluan Warisan Sejarah Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI)”.
