The Tuanku Bainun Library provides essential academic resources for Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) — a top education university in Malaysia and recognised as one of the best public universities in the country. Located in Tanjong Malim, Perak, UPSI stands as a leading Perak education university, playing a vital role in delivering quality education in Malaysia. The library supports teaching, learning, research, and publication by providing access to a wide range of scholarly materials, research databases, and advanced digital services, further strengthening UPSI education programs in Malaysia.
The library began as the Bilek Bachaan in the Suluh Budiman Building during the era of the Sultan Idris Training College for Malay Teachers (SITC). In 1957, it became known as the Khutub Khanah Maktab Perguruan Sultan Idris (MPSI) and moved to several locations in line with the institution’s development. In 1994, it was renamed Perpustakaan Za’ba in conjunction with the 75th Anniversary of SITC/MPSI/IPSI.
UPSI officially took over Perpustakaan Za’ba from the Sultan Idris Teacher Training Institute (IPSI) on 1 January 1998. As the student population grew, the library’s collections and facilities were progressively enhanced. Between 1998 and 2005, the number of staff increased from 4 to 59, including 17 professionally trained librarians.
