\n\t\t\t\tLIBRARY BACKGROUND\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\"Logo\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDownload Logo\n\t\t<\/a>\n\tUniversiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) officially took over Perpustakaan Za’ba from Institut Perguruan Sultan Idris (IPSI) on 1st January 1998. The library, which was a heritage of the Sultan Idris Training College (SITC), started with two rooms, Bilik Khir and Bilik Dussek, known as the Bilek Bachaan on the first floor of the Bangunan Suluh Budiman.\nWith the change of name to Maktab Perguruan Sultan Idris (MPSI) in 1957, a library building known as Khutub Khanah MPSI was erected at the rear of Bangunan Suluh Budiman, to the right of the dining hall building. As the need for library resources grew alongside the increasing number of students, Khutub Khanah MPSI moved to the Sekolah Datuk Abdul Razak’s dining hall in 1985.\nThe library continued its services when the institution was upgraded to Institut Perguruan Sultan Idris (IPSI) in 1987 and was named Perpustakaan IPSI. It was later renamed Perpustakaan Za’ba in conjunction with the 75th Anniversary Celebration of SITC\/MPSI\/IPSI in 1994. In September 1996, Perpustakaan Za’ba relocated back to Bangunan Suluh Budiman, this time occupying the entire first floor.\nSince 1998, the university has spent RM20 million to upgrade and update its collection of library materials. This amount excludes furniture, library security systems, and other related equipment. The number of staff also increased from 4 in early 1998 to 59 in 2005; of that number, 17 were professional staff trained in librarianship.\nIn 1999, the university approved the construction of a new building with 13,063 square metres of floor space. The building, equipped with lifts for users, was completed by the end of 2003. Facilities include an exhibition area, bookshop, cyber caf\u00e9, 24-hour reading room, baggage area, discussion rooms, research rooms, an auditorium, an IT training room, a meeting room, a viewing room, a conservation and printing room, and a surau. Sections for monograph collections, serials, and multimedia were also incorporated.\nTo enhance its services, the building is equipped with the latest Information and Communications Technology (ICT) facilities and linked to UPSINet. The acquisition of a world-class Integrated Library Management System was completed by the end of 2002. \n\t\t\t\tUPSI DIGITAL LIBRARY\n\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\"_DSC0839\"\n\tThe UPSI Digital Library (UDL) represents a modern, technology-driven approach to academic learning, research, and collaboration at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris. The journey began on December 16, 2019, when the facility officially commenced operations as the Academic Complex Library. To meet the evolving needs of digital-era learners, a major upgrading project was initiated in September 2020 to transform the space into a fully equipped digital library. Following a pre-launch officiated by the Vice-Chancellor of UPSI, YBhg. Dato’ Professor Dr. Mohammad Shatar bin Sabran, on December 15, 2020, UDL proudly opened its doors in its current digital capacity on January 11, 2021. To support daily academic operations, the library is managed by a dedicated team of staff, including one Deputy Chief Librarian, one Senior Assistant Librarian, and three Assistant Librarians.\nUDL operates from Monday to Friday, opening from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm during active semester periods, and from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm during semester breaks, while remaining closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Users visiting the library can enjoy a broad range of essential services, including book returns and renewals, library fine payments, reader advisory support, and formal verifications for convocation or study status. Additionally, UDL offers document services such as printing, photocopying, and laminating, alongside specialized digital references through two dedicated Kindle Fire units providing access to over 5,000 digital titles.\nTo foster an engaging learning environment, UDL combines academic workspaces with modern, high-tech amenities. The facility features an Open Reference Area capable of seating up to 250 patrons, three Information Kiosks, and a dedicated Digital Learning Space equipped with 14 computer workstations, 27 desks, and a digital whiteboard. For collaborative tasks, users can utilize two Discussion Rooms designed for up to six people, fully equipped with digital whiteboards and webcams. Furthermore, UDL encourages interactive reading and recreation through its Tablet Reading Area-which features eight iPads-and a vibrant Recreation Common complete with gaming areas, two dart boards, two Xbox consoles, four iPads, and immersive VR Arcade Games.\n\t
